The Uplyme village shop/post office has been put on the market as a going concern. The parish council is concerned as to what will happen to the property if no one is willing to take it on as such.

What guarantee is there that even if it is bought as a going concern the future owner will not pull the lot down and re-develop the site?

Can you imagine the site with a modern detached house on the plot?

The other unknown is whether David and Denise will continue to run the shop and post offices when the property changes hands or even if the new owner would want that.

The parish council would very much like to see a co-operative set up to purchase and run the business if all else fails. Perhaps it is not too early to be thinking on these lines. There are several set-ups already running on these lines the nearest being in Dalwood. Time to form a committee Smile

It certainly would be very detrimental to the village as a whole if we lost the post office.

How does a co-operative post office work ?
Where does the funding come from ?

It may be some way down the road - but if a new school was built, the old school buildings could contain amongst other things a community village shop and PO
