Is it true that the village shop and post office will be closing today?

I find no mention on this forum or on the parish council website, neither apparently was it discussed at the February council meeting for no mention was made, on the website, in the report of the meeting .

Does nobody care?

Where was the closure announced ? I knew the shop was for sale, but not that it was about to close ?

I do hope you are wrong - the PO/shop is an essential part of our village.

Probably a rumour started by Dave the Rave or the Delightful Denise to encourage someone to start a collection for a leaving present. Wink

On the other hand, I recall when Jim and Val left the Talbot many years ago they put on a Sunday lunch for a bunch of regular customers before, during and after which we were invited to do out best to drink the stock dry! Very Happy

And very few of us were found wanting. Cool

The latest (unconfirmed) info I have is that the shop will indeed close as of this morning, but that Neil will continue to run the Post Office.

Rumours abound as to possible purchasers.

I think i know who has bought the post office , but not sure if
they want it to be common knowlege as yet , just to say that it will
be run as before and by a family in the village , which i think is great .
Good luck to them , wish them all the best

Thank heavens for the garage with its ample supplies of newspapers sold to customers without accompanying insults! Smile

I believe the sale fell through at the last moment - see Lyme News tomorrow.

Was any more ever said about trying to form a co-operative of villagers to buy and run the shop ?

Uplyme.com has learned that the village shop is safe.

The business is in the process of being sold to a local purchaser, whose intentions are that it will continue to run as before.

Perhaps the speculation of last week will emphasise how important it is to our community that the shop and PO
continues to thrive and how much we would miss it if the 'big T' is allowed to finally drive all such remaining
competition into oblivion.

It would be a very sad loss. But as always it's a case of USE IT OR LOSE IT.
