Goals by the Dozen
Exmouth Eagles 5 Uplyme Youth 7
There were goals galore last Sunday morning in a spectacular match in Exmouth as Uplyme Youth won their first away fixture in the East Devon Youth League against Exmouth Eagles.

In the very first minute of the match the Exmouth keeper was troubled by a strapping shot from Uplyme’s Josh Armytage then a few seconds later it was Anthony Simes turn – this time to beat the keeper with a sturdy 20 yard shot. After 4 minutes of end-to-end play the Eagles opened up their scorecard with a goal from a massed rush by their forwards which overwhelmed Uplyme’s defence. The next ten minutes was a 50/50 affair with Uplyme’s forwards strong up front on the left whilst their goalie, Henry Perry and the stalwart defence were called upon to prevent any score at their end. However, in the 24th minute a goal from contentious penalty decision for a hand ball left Uplyme 2 – 1 down. The remaining minutes of the first half saw more surges by the Exmouth forwards which, in the final minute, was rewarded by a third goal leaving Uplyme 3 – 1 down at the half-time break.

Uplyme team manager, Phil Heath’s half-time team talk and positional changes worked their spell immediately in the second half when Anthony Simes arrowed long accurate shot into the goalmouth. 8 minutes later Anthony achieved his hat-trick and minutes later went on to score his fourth. It was then Josh Armytage’s turn when he picked up a long, accurate ball provided by Kyle Knight and after a super-speed run put the ball in the back of the net. With the score at 3 – 5 in Uplyme’s favour and with less than 10 minutes to go, Exmouth came back with two goals in quick succession to even the score. After a tense 8 more minutes with the game looking like it could go either way it was Uplyme’s Tom Chapple who took them back into the lead. Again Exmouth came back with a fine chance denied by an off-side ruling and then in the final minute of normal time Uplyme’s keeper made another an important save. Just before the final whistle and, after a characteristic swift sprint, Josh Armytage calmly put the ball past the Exmouth keeper. The referee judged Uplyme’s Man of the Match to be Anthony Simes.

Uplyme Youth’s next match is home to Exmouth Town next Sunday 23rd September at 2pm.
