Uplyme Youth continue their unbeaten league run

Exmouth Amateurs 2 Uplyme Youth 4
Last Sunday, with a 2 - 4 away win at Exmouth, Uplyme Youth U13 extended their unbeaten run of league games to 9.

On another cold and windy Sunday at the “Exmouth Archery” ground Exmouth kicked off and against both slope and wind kept the game level for the first ten minutes. However, with the conditions favouring them Uplyme went into attack mode and only failed to make their chances count by over-kicking in the strong tail wind. Then in the eighteenth minute on the tail of a concerted Uplyme attack Kyle Knight chipped a goal in. Four minutes later, in their first foray into Uplyme territory, a left-wing move by Exmouth was successful and the score was evened. But only a minute later a flick-pass from Knight enabled Sam Jones to outmaneuver the keeper for a second Uplyme goal. The last ten minutes of the first half was exiting stuff with chances at both ends - in the Uplyme half, sterling defensive work especially by Jack Fox and keeper Henry Perry prevented any score, - at the Exmouth end it was Knight again who did the scoring for Uplyme with two more goals courtesy of accurate passes from Anthony Simes and Jones. The half-time score was 1 – 4 to Uplyme.

In the second half, with the wind with them, Exmouth came back and after four minutes with their second goal. Uplyme had their chances from hard work by the mid-field and strong runs and kicks from Simes in particular, however Exmouth had a little more of the play in this half but were kept from scoring by the strong Uplyme defence. The final whistle saw the score 2 – 4 in favour of Uplyme.

Uplyme’s Man of the Match to judged be Jack Fox. Uplyme Youth’s next match is home to Tavistock Town on Sunday 13th January in the Quarter Finals of the Devon (Tesco) Cup, kick-off is at 2pm.
