Uplyme Back on Winning Form
Under 13 East Devon League
Uplyme Youth 6 - Colyton 1

On a warm, sunny Sunday at their Venlake ground Uplyme won the toss and opted to kick-off uphill against the low lying sun. Despite having only ten players Colyton had their fair share of attacking play in the first fifteen minutes but the solid Uplyme defence, notably action by Jack Heath and his decisive last man tackles kept the ball from the keeper. However in the seventeenth minute, against the run of play, a long-range pass from Uplyme’s Jack Fox found mid-fielder Johnnie Turner who beat the Colyton keeper. Another ten minutes of even play followed and was again ended by an Uplyme goal this time by Jack Heath from a pass by Josh Armytage. The entertaining first half ended with the score at 2 – 0 in favour of Uplyme.

In a repeat of the first half the under-strength Colyton side fought well in the initial period and it wasn’t until the fifteenth minute that an accurate pass from Liam Aldworth found Uplyme’s forwards and Jack Heath got his second goal. This was quickly followed another Uplyme, this time a spectacular volley-goal by Kyle Knight from a cross from Josh Armytage. Uplyme continued their assault on the Colyton goal and seven minutes later Jack Heath scored his hat-trick. Then to the flow of the play changed again and to the delight of the Colyton supporters a string of well put together passes enabled them to put the ball past Henry Perry the Uplyme keeper. The last ten minutes play was fairly even with chances both ends but it was Uplyme again that succeeded; scoring their sixth goal this time it was Josh Armytage who ran and dribbled half the length of the pitch before powering the ball into the back of the net.

The final score was 6 – 1 to Uplyme.

Uplyme’s Man of the Match to judged be hat-trick scorer Jack Heath. Uplyme Youth’s next match is at home to Honiton on Sunday 17th February, kick-off is at 2pm.
