|UPLYME YOUTH 1 COLYTON 2
This was a very entertaining and competitive game between local rivals on a pitch made difficult by overnight rain strong winds and heavy storms during the game.
Early play was end to end with Anthony Simes shooting over the bar for Uplyme after ten minutes.
Henry Perry then made a fine double save for Uplyme as Colyton threatened. Colyton were playing a good passing game and Perry was again called into action to keep the scores level.
Jack Heath was put through on goal but shot narrowly wide. Jack Fox then chipped a good pass over the Colyton defence for Kyle Knight to run onto but his shot was well saved by the Colyton keeper. Sam Jones then got on the end of a cross from Knight and though his shot beat the keeper it was cleared by the Colyton defence.
Playing down the slope Uplyme had further chances in the closing stages of the first half but the Colyton defence held firm.
Early in the second half Perry made a great save as Colyton broke through the Uplyme defence. Colyton were producing some good chances two of which went narrowly wide and another came back off the post.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Colyton took the lead. Upyme pressed for an equaliser and were playing good passing football in the difficult conditions. Colyton increased their lead in the 55th minute to make it 2 – 0.
With five minutes remaining good work from Jack Heath on the wing followed by a cross found Johnnie Turner at the far post to make it 2 – 1.
There were further chances for both sides in the closing stages and another fine save from Uplyme’s man of the match Henry Perry.
