Colyton 6 - Uplyme Youth 2
Late on second half goals clinch it for Colyton.
In drizzle, at Uplyme’s Venlake pitch, Colyton kicked-off uphill and took up the attack for the first few minutes with two shots going wide. Uplyme went forward for the next five with Jack Heath putting a shot wide and Anthony Simes putting one into the side of the net. Some minutes later at the other end Uplyme’s keeper Brett James saved a shot or two but was beaten in the twelfth minute by a powerful shot. Colyton maintained their attack and keeper James had more work to do - ably assisted by his defenders, notably with Simes and Callum Taylor putting in key tackles. Having weathered the attack for five minutes Uplyme put together a string of five passes including contributions from Sam Jones and Matt Pile but it was Jack Heath who finally put the ball into the Colyton net. With the score at one all, Colyton came back with a blistering attack down the right, keeper James fisted the ball out but the follow up shot from Colyton went wide. Five minutes later Uplyme went forward and midfielder Jones ran forward, took on two defenders and scored Uplyme’s second. In the final seven minutes of the first half with the slippery conditions hampering Uplyme’s keeper, Colyton came back scoring twice – the half time score was 2 – 3 to Colyton.
The second half started off at high speed with attacks on both goals but in the opening ten minutes it was the Uplyme defence who had most work to do – but there was no immediate score thanks to the work of keeper James and right back Taylor. At the Colyton end Jones, Simes, Heath and Pile linked together to trouble their keeper but no score there either. In the fifty ninth minute however, Colyton broke through and Although keeper James got a hand to it the powerful shot went into the net. In the remaining ten minutes Colyton kept up their attack and scored twice more putting the ball over the reach of the Uplyme goalie. In the final minutes Uplyme put in an all–up attack but with no result. Final score 2 – 6 in favour of Colyton.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Anthony Simes. Uplyme’s next match is 2.00pm Sunday 12th October at home to Watts Blake Bearne Youth in the first round of the Devon County Cup.
