Under 14 East Devon League
Ottery St Mary 4 Uplyme Youth 1
The end of Uplyme Youth’s winning run

Immediately after kick off Uplyme rushed into the Ottery half and tested their defences with a shot from Sam Jones but it went straight to the Ottery keepers hands. Uplyme kept up the pressure for five minutes or so and were finally rewarded by goal by Anthony Simes who received a good ball from Jones down the centre and hammered in a stunning shot. Ottery bounced back and for the next fifteen minutes there was fairly even possession until Ottery’s centre forward battled past several Uplyme defenders and banged the ball in goal over keeper Brett James up-raised arms. Ottery continued their attack particularly from set play and in the twenty second minute the ball was headed into the Uplyme goal from a corner kick. Uplyme continued to be kept under pressure for the remainder of the first half but the half time score remained at 2 – 1 in Ottery’s favour.

The first five minutes of the second half were similar to the first half with Uplyme immediately taking up the attack. Uplyme’s Jones and Simes connected well with Jack Heath up front but no score resulted. However the play for the next ten minutes was mostly at the Uplyme end and in the twelfth minute the Uplyme defence was overwhelmed by Ottery’s deft passes over the goalmouth which resulted in Ottery’s third goal. The remainder of the play second half was evenly balanced with Uplyme’s Kyle Knight, Johnnie Turner and Matt Pile all getting in shots on goal but it was Ottery who, in the final minute, scored again leaving the final score 4 – 1.

Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Matt Pile. Uplyme’s next match is away at Colyton at 10.30 am on Sunday 22nd March.
