|Under 15 East Devon League Cup Quarter Final
Colyton 1 – 4 Uplyme Youth
Sound victory for Uplyme
Uplyme kicked off and took control of the game for the first five minutes with Uplyme’s captain Sam Jones making several rapid advances up field and shots on goal; likewise Jack Heath had a couple of near misses. Colyton eventually got into the game but Uplyme’s defence and keeper James Wellman determinedly kept control in their own half. However most of the action was in the Colyton half where Uplyme’s Anthony Simes and Matt Pile worked hard coming forward pressurising the Colyton defence until eventually both Jones and Heath were successful in burying the ball in the net. Towards the end of the first half Colyton pressed forward requiring Uplyme’s defenders - notably Callum Taylor, Will Ridout and Jamie Wellman to work hard and keeper Dunford to pull out a couple of spectacular saves. At half time Uplyme were two goals up.
The second half began with Uplyme driving forward again and scoring twice more thanks to a powerful header by Pile and another goal from Jones. Nevertheless Colyton fought back producing a stimulating, fairly even second session with exciting play at both ends. Eventually, late on in the match, Colyton were rewarded with a goal after a lengthy tussle in the Uplyme goal area.
The final score in this League Cup Quarter Final was a 1 – 4 victory for Uplyme. Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be keeper James Dunford. Uplyme’s next match is on Sunday 24th February at home to Honiton.
