Under 16 East Devon League
Uplyme Youth 0 – 5 Exmouth Town

Exmouth kicked off down the slope and a fairly even game developed for the first quarter of an hour with Uplyme’s Will Ridout, Callum Taylor and keeper Brett James solidly defending their end whilst their forwards at the other end made their chances. However on the fifteenth minute a huge kick from the Exmouth keeper bounced cruelly for the Uplyme keeper and ball found the net. The next few minutes saw two more goals for Exmouth – one, a well executed header from a corner and the second, a run down the left, a cross and a goal. Uplyme soldiered on uphill with sound passing and fast runs by forwards - captain Sam Jones and Harry Thresher but shots went wide or high. In the thirty sixth minute Uplyme’s keeper, James caught a sharp shot but in the process injured his hand and was taken off and substituted by Ridout. Ridout performed well as keeper but was unable to keep out a further excellently headed in goal. The half time score was 0 – 4 to Exmouth Town.

Exmouth kept up the pressure in the second half but with some luck and decent defence and goal keeping the ball was kept out of Uplyme’s net. Up front Uplyme’s Thresher maintained his speed but his shots went wide. Half way through the second half another corner kick and superb header gave Exmouth their fifth goal. The remainder of the half saw exiting and persistently strong play by both Exmouth and Uplyme but good defence and goal keeping at both ends prevented any score.

The final score was a 0 – 5 victory for Exmouth Town. Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Callum Taylor for his consistently hard work in defence. Uplyme’s next match in Sunday 26th September away to Chard Town - a 10.30am kick-off.
