1st XI Captainís Report Ashley Caddy
Not best of seasons. Put behind us and keep the club going. More people needed to help with running of club.
He raised the question of whether the club should run a 1st XI team alone on Saturdays and 2nd XI to play in Sunday league. A full discussion followed.
A proposal was made that the club should continue to run two league teams on Saturday and the vote was in favour of the proposal with an agreement to review the situation next season.
2nd XI Captainís Report
Ali Rattenbury declined to report, as he had not played for the 2ndXI due to 1st XI commitments. E Clarke reported.
He requested that AR distribute the 2nd XI D Division championship medals to the relevant players.
C Division P 16 W 1 D 2 L 13 two games cancelled
34 players participated in at least one game.
4 players played 11 or more games and took cars to away games on a regular basis.
6 x U15 Colts made a total of 32 appearances. Cannot be faulted for their effort but lack of technique and experience was exposed.
The team was never able to produce the level of performances of previous season due to big changes in personnel. The one game won was due to having a side similar to that fielded in 2009. The team played with 10 men on four occasions. Feeling from the majority of the team was that they want to continue in regional Saturday league cricket next season where the traveling will not be as arduous and those who work to 12 noon will be more able to make it to away matches on time. EC standing down from Saturday cricket next year and will not be available to captain or select teams. He will continue as Junior Welfare Officer and will keep the club informed of junior players with potential and their availabilities. He will continue to run three junior teams
Sunday Captain
Jerry Sims reported a successful season. Won most games lost only 2. Most games at home. Thanks to everyone who supported the team. More fixtures on a Sunday required.
Secretaryís Report
Winter indoor nets were not particularly well attended and the cost per session went up or the length of time was shortened.
No pre season practice games were arranged and the turn out for the inter club match had 14 players. At that time it became apparent that we were not going to have the players available that we expected. Four potential 1st team members retired or had long-term injuries. Later two more regulars Ďretiredí. Nets were held every Wednesday but also were very poorly attended. The selection committee was struggling to select and ended up just happy to get out two sides. Knowledge of availability of some players was again a problem throughout the season. The club also had members working Saturdays and not available to travel and the football season was extended due to the wet winter.
ACTION These issues need to be addressed by the playing committee next season.
The committee met regularly and minutes were e-mailed to members, were posted in the club and on the Uplyme.com website. Unfortunately there was not full attendance at the July and August meetings and as a result plans were not put in place early enough to collect votes for the trophies for the presentation night nor was an alternative venue to the Talbot sought. EC apologized on behalf of the committee to the members for these deficiencies.
On a more positive note, Billy White took on the work of preparing the wicket and produced some very good surfaces. John Hunt was his apprentice and is ready to take over the full role next year. ACTION Thank BW for his work.
Thanks also go to David Jones who cut the outfield and got the grass looking immaculate. David also worked hard to repair the ends after every game by seeding and watering on a daily basis. Vital and time-consuming work. We wish David well and send our best wishes to Liz wishing her a speedy recovery.
A new mower was purchased and the next committee will have to decide on the winter work that needs to be done on the square. Alan Booth has begun to investigate the drainage problems along the end of the square and has given details of the repair work to be done.
Youth Report
On the back of the Youth section the club was able to secure a £500 grant to buy a double portable net and some fielding nets. The double net was used weekly by the U15 and U13
squads. It would be good to have the fielding/catching nets available next season.
The youth section went from strength to strength. The Under11 team was managed by Rodney Holmes. The U11 P5 W5 and came 2nd in the league and beat Dorchester in the Archie Masters Cup. Daley Holmes played for Dorset U9s and Wesley Holmes and Tyler Wellman played in the U11 district side. The U13 team P7 won 4 and L3 and came 3rd in the league. Sam Farrow played for the county. Jake Tansley, Glen Houlihan, Ben Blackmore and Joe Herbert played for the 2nd team The U15 team W3 L 2 and came 4th in the league. Matt Pile and James Dunford played for the County. Joe Bailey, Oscar Christopher and Henry Perry played for the 2nd XI. Henry also played two games for the 1st Medals have been ordered for a junior awards ceremony to be held at Woodroffe School later in the month. The partnership between the school and the club remains strong. The club again successfully hosted the West Dorset Kwik cricket tournament won by Charmouth School and hopes to be involved this summer in Chance to Shine as the link club with the Woodroffe feeder primary schools. ACTION If these young players are supported, encouraged, and coached by all members, the struggle to get teams out in future will no longer be a problem for the club.
