|Sam asked me to post this up for her...
After much thought, Gillian Butcher, Charlie Wheadon and Sam Pennington have decided that this will be their last year of running the 1st Lym Valley Cubs.
We have thoroughly enjoyed setting up this unit and seeing it grow and flourish over the 5 years since we first decided to take it on in September 2006. We have seen nearly 100 boys pass through our unit and although it has at times been challenging, particularly during the first year. It has also been extremely rewarding when we see how an individual's confidence and ability increases. We have tried to offer the cubs a wide range of activities and life skills, which are often not possible to attain at school. We have also had a lot of fun and laughter and the memories of this will stay with us for many years.
We shall, therefore, be leaving at the end of the Summer term 2011. If any of you are interested in taking over this thriving unit of boys, please get in touch. Alternatively, you may know of someone else in the community who has what it takes to run a cub unit. May we say that we had no special skills initially, just enthusiasm and energy. We thought it a shame that the Beavers had no where to move after the age of 8, so decided to form our own Cub group. Karen Yeland is now running a successful Scour group on Wednesday evenings for boys aged 10 to 10 and a half who are interested in continuing in the scouting movement after cubs. We hope to find new leaders to bridge the gap between beavers and scouts in the near future and we will, of course, be on hand to give help and advice.
