After several years of just talking about it, it looks like we may be about to get 'part-night lighting' in the village.

Uplyme.com has been told that the final details are being worked out in consultation with the Parish Council, but it seems that a similar scheme is now in operation in both Seaton and Beer. So, with street lighting representing over 40% of the Council's total expenditure, and a massive carbon footprint, surely this can only be a good thing.

It's already started in Whalley Lane! My street light has not been coming on until after dark and going off before daybreak ! Must be a test for things to come......

After moving from a floodlit High Street in a city to here, I love the fact that I can see the stars. Even tonight, I walked in near blackness to the pub. I love it. It sounds like a great idea to turn off the street lights in the wee hours.

Yes that one of the pleasures of less light pollution being able to see the stars

Since we all seem to want this, it sort of begs the question why has it taken so long ? And really, whoever decided they should be on all night in the first place? Imagine the money that's been wasted over the years.

We British seem to have a 'make do and see' attitude that allows us to put up with all sorts of things we know damn well are wrong, but feel utterly powerless to change except by engaging in a process that moves on a timescale of years.

And of course the lights aren't actually off here yet Surprised|

Geoff not wanting to blow his own trumpet didn't mention his post on this subject three years ago. http://uplyme.com/debate/viewtopic.php?t=460&highlight=streetlights+responsible++eddcs+co2
