|Are you public-spirited and interested in promoting high ethical standards?
Could you adjudicate complaints about councillor conduct?
Do you have an interest in how local councils run?
Do you have a small amount of time to get involved?
If you are politically neutral, tactful, have respect for others and can consider complex information, please get in touch with East Devon District Council.
We need someone to take on the new role of Independent Person to help our Standards Committee promote and maintain high standards of conduct by our district and local councillors. Your role will be to discuss any complaints that a Councillor has breached the Code of Conduct with the District Councilís Monitoring Officer before she decides on appropriate action
You will also be consulted following any investigation. Much of the work will be done by email and phone and any meetings are likely to be in the daytime. Training will be given to help you in this role. We offer an allowance (£50 for up to four hours and £100 for more than four hours) and travelling expenses to the successful candidate.
