AGM
Secretary/ Youth Report
Season started with the acquisition of a new mobile net funded by the Dorset Youth Opportunities Scheme. One net installed at the club and one at the school.

A limited number of indoor nets were arranged at Woodroffe and a number of pre season friendlies were arranged, none of which were played, due mainly to the weather.
The club entered the National Village Cup competition but was unable to raise a side to play in Cornwall on a Sunday

The committee agreed to establish a routine of net practise for U15 players followed by club nets and then selection on Wednesdays to ensure that younger players were integrated into the club and captains had full list of players availabilities before selection. For this to work the onus is on the captains to contact players before Wednesday and know their availability. A player who cannot give his availability should not be considered for selection. For the most part this worked. Occasionally players dropped out late in the week making it difficult for the 2nd XI captain to get a team. Fortunately a nucleus of young players came through to perform well for the 2nd XI and keep the side together.

The Trustees requested that the fence to the left of the old pavilion be removed. This was replaced by a mobile fence on match days. The committee also purchased two boundary ropes. David Jones represented the club at Trustee meetings and the reports back were generally favourable regarding the condition of the ground and the periphery.

The committee also ensured that the Horticultural Show and the Fete did not clash with 1st XI games. The first of these Saturdays was lost to torrential rain and the carpet in the clubhouse was lost to flood damage. The insurance company refused to cover the cost of replacement due to the policy being made out under the wrong postal code.

The Presidents Day match was rather disappointing with only 16 players turning out. The format and date needs to be reviewed for next season.

At the end of the season a bid was made to the Young Peoples club to raise 5000 to replace the astro turf wicket. 4,000 was granted along with 500 from the town council. Another bid for 1000 was made to Candles on the Cobb which also supports youth projects. The Woodroffe School were asked to pay the VAT as part of the club / school partnership. This they will do as long as the astro turf is bought in the schools name. The committee is proceeding along these lines.
The presentation evening was a great success and the club recognized the important contribution made by the younger players. In order for this to continue Youth teams have to flourish. We will be without an U11 manager this year. Is anyone willing to take on this role? We will be running U13 and U15 teams in the West Dorset league. Any players who can help with coaching and umpiring will be most welcome.
The club has bought trophies for the junior presentation which will take place at Woodroffe school at 8.40 Friday. Any members who can attend please do so.
