I, like many of the older generation have great problems coming to terms with modern technology including computers, I still can’t operate a video recorder Mad

I am also becoming more aware as time passes that I do not understand the English language at all well. This is particularly so regarding what I am told is Text Messaging. Do I detect that this language is now creeping into this forum Question

I am told that text messaging serves two purposes. One is that “more” can be sent on a mobile phone for your buck and the other is that it is faster to type on those mobile phone thingies. I dare say that this latter reason holds for “texting” on this forum. Unfortunately the saving in time is only gained by the person posting. For the unfortunate person attempting to decipher the text it is an entirely different matter. First he must search for a dictionary and then usually his efforts are completely frustrated for most of these text words are not to be found in any English dictionary. I have had similar lack of success in searching French and German dictionaries Sad

Please consider dear posters of text language that yes you may save yourself the odd second or two by resorting to this technique and I do trust that you spend that well earned time in some worthy manner, but please spare a thought for the reader of such messages. He will spend many seconds perhaps minutes attempting to decipher your post for there in the code may be an earth shattering revelation, idea or words of wisdom not to be missed. Multiple this one person’s lost time by the number of other poor souls having trouble understanding the post and the resulting time could even add up to a lost week-end. Mad

So to who it may concern could you please refrain from using text lingo or you may find that your otherwise much appreciated posts are no longer being read. Wink

I agree with Rhodie and Joe and I do like mobiles!
I have heard that there is actually a deeper problem which is poor spelling due to overuse of 'txtng' Wink at an early age and not enough experience or learning of what the rest of we humans use.
Having ascended from scratches on a wall, through runes and hieroglyphs (difficult that one...) to modern day spelling, we may well be witnessing a mass reversion Rolling Eyes
If you have something to say, then is should matter to you that others can understand it. Not just that you can Twisted Evil

Here is a poem signifying the non-importance of texting lingo.

Mary had a mobile phone,
She texted day and night.
But when it came to her exams,
She'd forgotten how to write. Very Happy

Joe i've read your war poems and thats the best you can come up with????

Now this is the point where a well educated person would put a poem of their own as a response, kinda like Wilfred Owen.

But I've got a geography project to do and my head hurts.
