Road works to correct the drainage problems in Lyme Rd, Uplyme began this morning and are expected to last for 'several months'.

The section involved is from 50m north of Lime Kiln Lane to 150m south of Lime Kiln Lane. It seems that the continuing subsidance at over this section is due to a combination of heavy through traffic and spring water draining away under the road into the field below.

A spokesman for the contractor, Avent, said that there were huge soakaways and three new 8" drains to be provided across Paul Bright's field leading into the river Lym at the bottom of the field. Gabian baskets are then to provide reinforcement and support for the road edge. The road surface will then be remade.

NOTE: The bus stop at Lime Kiln Lane will continue to operate as usual and drivers are requested to act responsibly in respect of the traffic lights and the bus stop.

Anyone wanting to ask Avent for more information should call 07717-507982

As the Kaiser Chiefs would say - I predict a riot. especially at schooltimes.

Geoff.

This work has now been completed and the road is open again to 2-way traffic at 30mph (!).

The contractors seem to have left the area pretty tidy (if a little muddy), but the dip in the road appears to be just as before. Perhaps further resurfacing work is to be expected now the drainage is under control ?
