I have just been wondering where I should put an emergency notice concerning a road blockage. Confused

Could or should we have a forum reserved for emergency notices and warnings Question

For your interest I decided to put it in Road Safety

I think thats a great idea. Maybe a slightly wider 'announcements' forum for any announcements that need to be made to the community generally?

Perhaps it is early days, but a good idea none the less and exactly the sort of thing that an on-line forum is best at.

I expect when Mr. Marconi started shouting about his new-fangled radio waves everyone said - bah who will use it ??? Now virtually all of modern society relies upon radio in some form or another Shocked

I think certain announcements would be very useful - for example, is a particular sporting event on or off due to the weather? The organisers could post a message to clarify this before everyone sets out. Hmm, that would save time, fuel and pollution.

My first job today was to answer Homer and Oliver's follow-ups. Now Geoff has done it for me. His post went exactly along my intended line.

It's not very encouraging that the youngsters amongst us do not see some of the great advantages and real practical uses of this new - to us older ones - technology Sad

I think we 'younger ones' do understand the uses of modern technology but I still feel a forum web-site with below 50 users is not the first port of call for weather reports etc.

Prehaps in the future...?

I am not saying that the forum should be the first port of call to contact all parishioners. In an emergency every possible means of contract should be adopted. Although at present the number of people seeing such postings on the forum is small how does it compare with the alternative ports of call Question

Which are Question

The parish clerk phoning everyone Question

Notices on the parish notice boards Question

I rest my case.

Even though the parish council carried out an enquiry into how Uplyme would cope in an emergency I donít remember any consideration being given to how each and every parishioner would be contacted. Every little helps and the forum membership will hopefully grow.

What if Mr Marconi had given up Sad

At the end of the day there are only so many emergencies that are likely to occur in uplyme. eg Flooding...

And if there was flooding the electricity would fail... and computers would fail...

... however radio will not and we are all very glad Mr Marconi didn't give up...

If it is a transister radio then it doesnt even need batteries...
And the radios that use battries will slowly run out of power
