A Decisive Win after Extra Time
Colyton 6 Uplyme 9

Last Sunday, in the 2nd round of the Devon/Tesco U13 Youth Cup, Uplyme won a close fought away match against their local rivals Colyton.

In warm dry conditions Uplyme quickly went one up by a third minute goal from Anthony Simes. Simes had a couple more chances in the following 10 minutes whilst Colyton had theirs at the other end. But stalwart work from Uplyme’s keeper Henry Perry and his defenders, notably, Jack Fox and Callum Taylor prevented any loss until in the 20th minute, after constant pressure, Colyton produced a goal. 2 minutes later Uplyme cane back thanks to Josh Armytage who scored after a 40 yard run. A minute later Kyle Knight received a solid pass and slotted in another Uplyme goal. The remaining minutes of the first half produced end-to-end excitement but no more goals, leaving the half-time score at 1:3 in favour of Uplyme.

The second half opened with both sides’ defences being tested. After a quarter of an hour Colyton blasted a shot from 30 yards to bring the score-line closer. 10 minutes later Uplyme opened up the gap as Johnnie Turner put the ball over the line after Jack Heath’s shot was deflected by the Colyton keeper. With the game seemingly won for Uplyme, Colyton came back very strongly in the last 5 minutes and scored twice more to even the score at 4:4 at full-time.

The first half of extra time was dominated by the individual performance of Armytage who scored three more times by out-running the Colyton defence. Score half way through extra time was 4:7 to Uplyme. The second half of extra time produced more exiting football at both ends with Uplyme initially having the best of it from two more individual goals from Armytage. But Colyton would not admit defeat and came back with two goals of their own leaving the final score 6:9.

The referee judged Uplyme’s Man of the Match to be jointly won by Josh Armytage and Jack Fox. Uplyme Youth’s next match is home to Exmouth eagles next Sunday 11th November at 2.00pm.
