|Devon/Tesco Cup win for Uplyme Youth U13
Dartmouth 4 Uplyme Youth 12
Last Sunday, with a 4 - 12 away win at Dartmouth, Uplyme Youth U13 won a place in the Quarter Finals of the Devon/Tesco Cup.
The first few minutes of play saw play at both ends however with a cold strong wind at their backs Uplyme opened up the score sheet in the fifth minute from a proficient goal by Josh Armytage. This was followed by sustained pressure on the Dartmouth goal where their keeper made many good saves until, in the thirteenth minute Anthony Simes slotted in Uplyme’s second goal. Only a minute later, at the other end, a well-executed corner kick produced the goods for Dartmouth. The next couple of minutes saw Sam Jones’s hard work in mid-field pay-off when he scored a third Uplyme goal. This was quickly followed by Dartmouth’s second goal but during the remaining 20 minutes of the first half Uplyme dominated. Whilst the Dartmouth keeper made some outstanding saves, Uplyme scored four more goals – one from Johnnie Turner and one more each from Armytage, Simes and Heath. The half time whistle saw the score sheet at 2 – 7 in Uplyme’s favour.
Although now facing the bitter wind, Uplyme kept up their attack and kept the opposition’s goalie very busy resulting in two goals in the first 5 five minutes of the second half – Armytage’s hat trick (fed by an accurate up the wing pass from Tom Chapple) and one from Kyle Knight (from a goal area pass from Armytage). Dartmouth then came back with a rush and powered a ball over goalie, Henry Perry into the Uplyme goal. Unfazed, Uplyme quickly got back on top with intense pressure on goal; many shots were well-saved but two got through – second goals each for Heath and Knight. Dartmouth fought back producing their fourth goal in the 29 minute but more pressure in the final minutes from Uplyme gave Knight his hat trick and Uplyme it’s twelfth goal.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was Josh Armytage. Uplyme Youth’s are now through to the Quarter Finals of the Devon (Tesco) Cup.
