Under 13 Devon Cup Quarter Finals - Uplyme Youth lose in a Penalty Shoot-out
Result 3 - 3 after extra time, (penalties Uplyme Youth 1 - Tavistock Town 4)

Last Sunday, at home, Uplyme Youth U13 lost against Tavistock Town in the Quarter Finals of the Devon/Tesco Under 13 Cup.

On a warm, sunny Sunday at the Venlake ground, Uplyme kicked off down the slope and took up the attack for the first few minutes but Tavistok’s sound defence prevailed. The vocal and numerous supporters were treated to twenty minutes of end-to-end play with Uplyme’s Josh Armytage causing problems for Tavistock at one end whilst at the other end George Heath‘s spectacular tackles and Callum Taylor’s goal-line save kept Uplyme safe. Both teams had chances with many powerful shots going wide of goal at both ends and Uplyme’s keeper, Henry Perry, in particular, being kept busy. Then in the final few minutes of the first half a long, accurate pass from Uplyme’s Connor Pemberton to Josh Armytage enabled him to slot-in a goal and only minutes later Anthony Simes scored Uplyme’s second thanks to a long, precise throw in. The half-time score was 2 – 0 to Uplyme.

In the second half, with the slope with them, Tavistock went on the attack and within four minutes scored twice and had most of the play for the next twenty minutes with several near misses and important saves by Uplyme’s goalie keept the score even. Then in a repeat of the first half move Connor Pemberton fed Josh Armytage who beat Tavistock’s keeper. With three minutes to go Tavistock’s relentless pressure on Uplyme’s goal produced a result and the full-time whistle saw the score 3 all.

Extra time was ten minutes each way and was exiting as the first seventy minutes with both teams fighting endlessly despite tired limbs. However no goals were scored.

So the game was decided on penalties and a couple of misses by Uplyme resulted in a win for Tavistock Town.

Uplyme’s Man of the Match to judged be Connor Pemberton. Uplyme Youth’s next match is away to Ottery St Mary on Sunday 3rd February, kick-off is at 11am.
