Uplyme Youth 4 - Honiton 4
On another a warm, sunny Sunday at the Venlake ground Honiton kicked off downhill and immediately went on the attack and only quick work from the Uplyme keeper, Brett James and a good clearance by Jack Fox prevented a goal. Honiton kept up the pressure and in the fourth minute, from a corner kick, slotted in a goal. A minute later they had another chance but the shot went wide. Another minute later a breakaway by Uplyme begun by Anthony Simes allowed Jack Heath to sprint up the left wing and put the ball across the goalmouth to be banged in by Josh Armytage. For the next ten minutes Honiton had the play and Uplyme’s keeper and defence was kept very busy; notably a goal-line clearance by Callum Taylor stopped any score. In the sixteenth minute Sam Jones broke through in the centre and from twenty yards put in Uplyme’s second goal. The remainder of the second half was evenly matched and punctuated by numerous offside rulings and other infringements but no with more score. The first half ended with the score at 2 – 1 in favour of Uplyme.
The second half started well for Uplyme thanks to Josh Armytage who sprinted and dribbled eighty yards to score his second goal. Two minutes later Honiton came back with a long ball lifted over Uplyme’s keeper to score their second goal. They kept up the pressure, missing some chances but following a corner, were successful ten minutes later in scoring after a goal mouth fumble. Continued pressure resulted in their fourth goal twenty-five minutes into the second half. Uplyme responded two minutes later thanks to a spirited run by Josh Armytage who scored his hat-trick and Uplyme’s fourth goal. In the last eight minutes Honiton were again on the attack but sterling work by Uplme’s defence and, notably brave work by Brett James their keeper kept the final score at 4 – 4.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged to be Anthony Simes. Uplyme Youth’s next match has yet to be scheduled.
