Under 13 East Devon League
Exmouth Amateurs 2 - Uplyme Youth 5

Battling against a bitter northwesterly wind on the exposed Exmouth Archery Club ground the full-strength Uplyme team kicked off and immediately took up the attack but without any threatening results. Exmouth then came back for a minute or two – again without result. In the next five minutes Uplyme’s forwards kept up a serious attack with shots from Josh Armytage and Kyle Knight just going wide. Exmouth had their attacking phases and Uplyme’s keeper, Henry Perry was kept busy and made several skillful saves. Uplyme had the play for the last quarter hour of the first half – Knight and Armytage again sent shots wide – then five minutes from half time, from a cross from Sam Jones, Knight powered a shot home. The half-time score was 0 – 1 to Uplyme.

The initial stages of second half saw the same pattern as the first with both keepers being kept very busy and both showed great proficiency in preventing any score. However in the eleventh minute Knight of Uplyme scrabbled a goal over the line and three minutes later Jones put another one past the Exmouth goalie. With Exmouth then having more of the play Uplyme’s defence were kept active with notably George Heath and Brett James stymieing many forceful attacks until in the twenty-second minute when Exmouth got one home. This was rapidly followed by a response from Uplyme when Jack Heath scored his second goal. Then another quick retort, this time by Exmouth, when a one-on-one with Uplyme’s goalie went in their favour. In the remaining eight minutes the play was mainly in the Exmouth half and the pressure paid off in the final minute when a cross from Knight found Jack Heath’s head and Uplyme scored their fifth goal. The final score was 2 – 5.

Uplyme’s Man of the Match was to judged be George Heath. Uplyme Youth’s next match is at home to Honiton on Sunday 20th April, kick-off is at 2pm.
