Under 13 East Devon League
Uplyme Youth 1 Honiton 8

As the sun broke through the cloud Uplyme kicked off against a brisk wind and went forward but were competantly repelled. The first few minutes looked evenly matched, however it was Honiton who broke through and put shots into the side of the Uplyme net twice in the third minute and were successful their third attempt despite solid efforts from defender Bret James and keeper Henry Perry. The next ten minutes saw chances from Uplyme with good through balls from Anthony Simes and Jack Fox but unsuccessful near miss shots from Sam Jones and Josh Armytage. In the fifteenth minute however, after a series of corners, Honiton scored from a classic high corner kick and then headed ball to the far post. The rest of the first half saw evenly matched play and courtesy of a talented one man run by Armytage in the twentieth minute Uplyme got a goal - whilst on the half hour Honiton gained another goal following an unfortunate miss-kick by the Uplyme keeper. There were chances at both ends in remaining five minutes and notably Uplyme’s Jones and George Heath had near misses. The half-time score was 1 – 3 to Honiton.

Although Honiton kicked off the second half into the wind they immediately went on a determined attack which was initially stymied by the Uplyme defence. However, a few minutes later, in the space on ten minutes, Honiton put in five goals and kept on the offensive for most of the second half. Uplyme’s made some attacking reply – particularly a blast of a shot from Simes which went high over the bar and a one-on-one attempt on goal by substitute Liam Aldworth which unluckily didn’t get past the Honiton keeper. The final score was 1– 8.

Uplyme’s Man of the Match was to judged be Anthony Simes. Uplyme Youth’s next match is at home to Feniton on Tuesday 22nd April, kick-off is at 6.30pm.
