Exmouth Amateurs 3 - Uplyme Youth 2
Another close fought match.
On a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon away at the Withycombe Raleigh Common ground Uplyme kicked off against the Exmouth Amateurs in their second fixture of the new season. Initial play went with Exmouth with two attempts on goal in the first three minutes but both went wide. Although Uplyme then put an attack or two in it was Exmouth who, in the seventh minute, broke through the Uplyme defence and scored. Uplyme responded well and Anthony Simes put a powerful ball over the opposition’s cross-bar. But still Exmouth came forward - first with a shot which went straight to the Uplyme’s keeper’s hands then in the twelfth minute their swift forwards broke through again and scored their second goal. Uplyme had more several chances thanks to strong kicks from hand by keeper Brett James and decent shots from Kyle Knight and George Heath. Another Upylme opportunity came from a corner when, right back CallumTaylor came up into the box but his header went high. Connor Pemberton from the Uplyme defence also had a chance – he put in a superb exhibition of dribbling up the field but his final shot went wide. At the Uplyme end keeper James was called upon a number of times to prevent more score. The half-time score was Exmouth Amateurs 2 Uplyme 0.
The second half opened with more attacking play from Exmouth - again keeper James was called upon to make some good saves. After ten minutes or so Uplyme got into their attacking stride with Pemberton, now up in midfield, making more agile darting runs and George Heath and Sam Jones putting in some useful shots on goal. But it was Knight in the twenty fourth minute who, on the end of some good passes from Jack Fox and Pemberton made a great run and scored. Then two minutes later Jones scored Uplyme’s second goal - again on the end of a string of passes. The game seemed set for a draw until in the thirty-first minute a couple of miss-kicks by the Uplyme defence allowed Exmouth to score their third. The fairly evenly balanced game thus ended Exmouth Amateurs 3 Uplyme 2.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Connor Pemberton. Uplyme’s next match is 2.00pm Sunday 5th October at home to Colyton.
