|Under 14 East Devon League – Wellman Cup Quarter Final
Beacon Knights 5 - Uplyme Youth 3
A closely fought Cup Tie.
On a warm December day Beacon Knights kicked off but instantly came under pressure with Uplyme’s Kyle Knight, fed by fellow striker Anthony Simes, getting a shot on goal away in the first few minutes. In the eleventh minute Knight was fed another ball, this time from Sam Jones and this time he put it away in the back of the net. Beacon Knights soon came back and from a free kick hit the Uplyme upright. Minutes later the Uplyme keeper, Brett James was needed to punch the ball out but it went to a Knights player who skyed it over the bar. Seconds later after a prolonged goalmouth scuffle Knights got their first goal. Uplyme came back with Jones and Simes working hard and delivering ball up forward Simes but to no avail. The half-time score was a fair 1 – 1.
The play in the second half carried on similarly to the first with attacks and sound defence by both sides but this time with more vigour the Knights who, from one of many corner kicks, slotted one more in after five minutes. Uplyme came back again and, from one of many accurate passes from mid-fielder Jack Fox, a series of passes resulted in Uplyme’s equaling score by Jones. Beacon Knights had a lot of play for the next ten minutes and scored twice more despite sound Uplyme defensive play by Jack Rumens and Callum Taylor. Uplyme came back once more and their Knight put one more past the other Knights keeper. At the other end Uplyme’s keeper, James, was kept busy and saved a couple of tricky shots until, in the final minute, he was beaten once more leaving the final score at 5 – 3 to Beacon Knights.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be striker Anthony Simes. Uplyme’s next match is at home to Exmouth Amateurs next year on 11th January at 2pm.
A Merry Xmas to you All!
