UPLYME YOUTH 2 BEACON KNIGHTS 2
Late Goals snatch victory away from Uplyme
Uplyme kicked off up the slope in the face of a strong wind. Beacon Knights mounted early pressure and hit the underside of the bar with a dipping shot which came down on the line and was gathered by keeper Brett James. Uplyme went in front in the seventh minute with a penalty from Sam Jones after Anthony Simes was tripped in the box following a determined run. James had to be off his line quickly in the sixteenth minute to smother another good attacking move from the Knights. Uplyme forced a corner which was flicked on at the near post by Simes with Matty Pile just failing to connect at the far post.
Beacon Knights mounted sustained pressure towards the end of the first half. James made a good save from close range and Jones did well to clear a goal bound shot over the bar as Uplyme’s defence held firm in the face of a strong wind. Uplyme were fortunate to survive in a goalmouth scramble at the end of the half and held out to lead 1-0 at the break.
The Knights carved out two openings early in the second half but shot narrowly wide on both occasions. Uplyme responded with a free kick from Simes which was well saved and made it 2-0 on fifty five minutes when Johnnie Turner broke clear from a throw-in and chipped the keeper from a tight angle.
The wind became even stronger, making playing conditions very difficult. Jones latched on to a long drop kick from keeper James and sent in a good cross which Pile just failed to reach. Jones was then put clear with five minutes remaining but shot wide.
Just as it looked that Uplyme would secure victory - Beacon Knights reduced the arrears following a low cross into the box which was firmly struck past keeper James. The Knights came again in search of an equaliser and were rewarded with an angled shot into the top corner of the goal.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was Anthony Simes.
