Colyton 2 – 2 Uplyme Youth
Uplyme Youth keep it a draw - just.
Uplyme Youth kicked off and, after a couple of minutes scored as the result of a low drive by Anthony Simes from a free-kick twenty yards out. There were then ten minutes or so of even play but then Colyton took hold of the game and kept Uplyme’s keeper Sam Jones and his defence very busy with sound play from Matt Pile and Connor Owen and solid volleys from George Heath. Then against the run of play Uplyme’s Matt Pile punted the ball forward to find Brett James up front who slotted the ball in goal despite the attentions of a couple of Colyton defenders. With most of the remainder of the first half play in Uplyme’s territory the Uplyme goalie Jones acquitted himself well until five minutes from the interval a penalty was given against Uplyme and Colyton got a goal back leaving the half time score at 1 - 2.
The second half saw fairly even play for the first twenty minutes with both goals being threatened but it was at the Uplyme end that tragedy struck as the keeper spilled the ball and a persistent Colyton striker put the ball home. Level play continued with Uplyme’s Simes putting in strong shots from a long way out but with no score whilst at the other end Pile covered a lot of ground and Jones kept bravely to stymie the Colyton attack. After forty minutes the final score was a two all draw. Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Matt Pile. Uplyme’s next match is away at Exmouth Juniors on Sunday 18th October.
