Under 15 East Devon League
Uplyme Youth 2 – 1 Colyton

A Close, Exiting Match

From the kick off by Colyton, Uplyme immediately took up the attack but shots from captain Sam Jones were saved by the Colyton keeper and other shots by Uplyme went wide or high. Having endured over ten minutes onslaught by Uplyme, Colyton fought up the ground and manufactured a one on one with the Uplyme keeper Brett James but the shot went wide. After a short period of fairly even play Uplyme again bore down on Colyton but again Uplyme’s shots were stymied by the Colyton keeper. However, half an hour into the match, Uplyme’s Matt Pile gave a long accurate pass up field to eventually find Kyle Knight who slammed the ball home. While the remainder of the half was mostly spent in the Colyton’s territory; just before the half-time whistle, a long, strong run by a Colyton forward beat three Uplyme players but was only rewarded by a corner from which no score resulted. Thus at half time Uplyme were one goal up.

Although Uplyme began the second half it was Colyton who, after only a minute or so, rushed forward and put the ball in the net; but no goal was awarded due to an offside decision. Uplyme quickly got back into gear with Matt Pile hitting the crossbar from a free kick and many attacks on goal - this eventually resulted in a goal by Jones to put Uplyme two up. The rest of the second half was a fifty-fifty game with exiting, attacking play by both teams - ultimately it was Colyton who scored by lofting the ball over the reach of Uplyme keeper and finding the back of the net. The final score was a 2 – 1 victory for Uplyme. Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Matt Pile. Uplyme’s next match is on Sunday 28th March in the JG Memorial Cup Semi Final away against Beacon Knights – a 10.30 am kick-off.
